Please support our roadmaps that embrace daily direct actions toward a free society. These are re-emerging, happening once again and will this time hopefully shake off the dust of bourgeois electoral politics that continually defer the needs of the poor. As nature might not be there to save our planet, counter-hegemonic actions by the poor and working class represent our only credible hope and cannot be delayed any further.

Established in 2022, Ntirhisano Community Centre (NCC) has been participating in activities with grassroots communities and cultivating mutual aid principles that embrace self-reliance and offer alternatives to electoral politics. The roadmaps that are shaped by the communities themselves underpin their direct and participatory actions – towards mass solidarity.

Ntirhisano relies on the resilience and ability of the impoverished to adapt and defend themselves against the natural and social ills that have manifested in their communities. Despite many challenges and even miseries, this cognisant social component signifies the power of the poor and working-class consciousness. This has to confront the multiplicity of imperial-colonial and reactionary divisions sown in these communities. The self-reliance, sharing and solidarity have kept the oppressed communities sane and alive for as long as human existence started. Ntirhisano Community Centre members have created relationships with five communities in this regard, and we are in collaboration with other activists in progressive circles.

The communities with which we are involved include the Salt River neighbourhood community where NCC is based, and Cissie Gool House (CGH) in Woodstock. CGH represents the occupation of empty hospital buildings occupied by mostly gentrification evictees in 2017, and is named after a renowned Cape Town anti-apartheid activist. The other three communities are located in two informal settlements and a refugee community, all in the southern suburb called Kensington. All these communities are based in Cape Town.

However, for NCC to continue and keep its doors open in 2023 we need funds to cover the monthly costs for the community centre and our projects for five months, from January to May 2023.

Total Monthly Budget in euros: 1259,47

  1. Rent: 351,98 + 10% (35,22) annual increase
  2. WIFI: 32,49
  3. Electricity: 54,14
  4. Water: 92,09
  5. Organising allowance: 270,61
  6. Transport: 97,43
  7. Provisions: 162,55

Subtotal: 1259,47

Total: 1259,47 X 5 = 5772,90

We’ve been participating intensively in the above-mentioned communities in the form of learning activities, free WIFI, open mic (microphone) sessions, performance rehearsals, a vegetable garden, community meetings, organising community protests, political education, raising funds for school transport, joining forces with progressive civil societies, participating in workers’ protests, and are constantly attempting to do more.
